what to do see Notthingham

Nottingham is primarily associated with Robin Hood. However, not everyone knows that Nottingham has been recognized by UNESCO as a City of Literature. It has a historical heritage of the region that cannot be overestimated.

The castle is a must see when visiting Nottingham. It is only a 10-minute walk from the city centre. Inside the castle you will find museums and galleries detailing the rich cultural past of Nottingham as a city. Don’t forget to grab a selfie with the Robin Hood statue, and drop into the nearby pub called “Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem” to get a little merry in true Robin Hood style. Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is widely known as the oldest inn in the land and was built in soft sandstone rock. The pub with historic charms has been welcoming all thirsty and hungry travellers since 1189.

At the top of Nottingham Castle there is a viewpoint with breathtaking views of the entire city.

Did you know that Nottingham is greener than Robin Hood’s hat? The largest number of Green Flag parks in the country, tree-lined boulevards, the River Trent and Sherwood Forest alongside beautiful heritage sites such as Wollaton Hall and Deer Park, Newstead Abbey and Rufford Abbey makes Nottinghamshire the best place to relax in nature.

First on the list, Wollaton Hall is an Elizabethan house set in five hundred acres of spectacular gardens, only 20 minutes from the city centre. The house is now Nottingham Natural History Museum with Nottingham Industrial Museum in the outbuildings. In Wollaton Hall were filmed scenes for the movie “Batman – The Dark Knight”.

Next is the Arboretum – an essential stop on a visit to the city. The park was founded in 1852 and supposedly inspired the Neverland from the fairy tale of Peter Pan. There you will find over 800 trees, including many planted 150 years ago, plus flowers and countless other plants. The Tree Trail and Heritage Trail routes run through the park.
